"Smurfs used as shock treatment in UNICEF's fundraising drive: Cartoon characters' village bombed in anti-war TV commercial." (Audio-visual links here.)
Personally, while I love a good antiwar scare commercial aimed at kids (I grew up in the '80s when it seemed like there was one of those every week), I think UNICEF may have underestimated the extent to which some of us wouldn't mind seeing the Smurf village get severely shaken up. Though to be fair, in Belgium they might have fonder memories of the Smurfs, having been brought up on the Peyo books rather than the Hanna-Barbera version.
Personally, I think it was Brainy Smurf who bombed the village, in revenge for always getting thrown out on his head.
