The official "Peanuts" website is running strips from 1970, and they're currently running one of my favorite of Schulz's multi-week stories, involving politics, war, and romance. It starts here.
The reason behind the riot at the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm -- "War dogs being sent to Viet Nam, and then not getting back" -- is, I think, based on a real story that was in the news at the time: people were donating their dogs to the war effort, and then discovering that the dogs got left behind in the jungle, put to sleep, or given to the South Vietnamese army.
