The book ends with several people just going into the premiere screening, without a consensus or verdict on the completed film itself, rather odd since "Dolittle" pretty much serves as the book's through-line. Hollywood was scuttled on several fronts by rapidly changing popular culture during the 1960s. The great irony of "The Studio" is that both the beggars and choosers in that book got swept aside by changing tastes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6956070.post-33980557488570152032011-11-28T08:12:39.227-05:002011-11-28T08:12:39.227-05:00I like Dr. Dolittle, eddy murphy version of course...I like Dr. Dolittle, eddy murphy version of coursefree movies onlinehttp://freemoviesonlineq.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6956070.post-20047036847769166282011-11-20T12:39:19.005-05:002011-11-20T12:39:19.005-05:00I suspect that a lot of the audience's familia...I suspect that a lot of the audience's familiarity with classical music came because those were the sort of pieces that were likely to be used to accompany silent music, whether the real pieces themselves were actually used or just provided the "inspiration" for the accompanist. Then like just about all of us the studio bosses in later years just assumed that eveyone else was familiar with the music of their youth.

But if ever an idea really sucked, then this was it.Jimnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6956070.post-66224290342077768412011-11-15T11:45:20.225-05:002011-11-15T11:45:20.225-05:00I wouldn't feel too bad about Henry Koster. Of course I'm reminded of the situation sadly common on Broadway today, when producers opt for pre-written pre-digested "scores" made up of already-familiar hits, not trusting that there's an audience that might like to hear something they haven't heard before. Sickening business, this faithlessness, in any era.Noel Katzhttp://www.noelkatz.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
