Nay, I demand double my money back! Or you'll be in for a close shave. Or something.

"No lyricist is immune to mis-accenting, I guess."

Well, sometimes one just gets stuck, I suppose. You can't think of anything else without rewriting half the song, or the deadline is up, or whatever. At least you can often pull off a slightly misstressed syllable, with the singer's co-operation.

Misrhyming, on the other hand, is not so easily forgiven. You can try a deliberate mispronunciation to make it really rhyme (if it's a comic song, anyway), but hoping the audience won't notice a "close" rhyme just doesn't cut it. Have you ever done a post on singers who work against rhymes that ought to work, like "been" and "again"? The standard pronunciations only became official because people insist on slurring them, but to prefer the slurred pronunciation over the one that would rhyme is perverse. And yet it seems to happen even when some people are singing songs that they wrote....

-David "has always been, and still is" GreenPlatonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6956070.post-37629746691474384502011-07-28T20:18:12.783-04:002011-07-28T20:18:12.783-04:00I definitely enjoy your musical posts, it's ho...I definitely enjoy your musical posts, it's how I found out about the gorgeous score of The Grass Harp.
