My acting teacher recently told me that, should I wish to persue a career in musical theatre, I would have to switch over to a different kind of singing style (presumably a more "pop"ish sound). Instead of heeding his advice and becoming another belty mezzo, I went online to research musicals that featured roles my voice could handle, and found a small, but neat, list. Problem is, composers aren't writing like that anymore, since, given the choice, 99% of contemporary musical theatre students would take Grease or Seussical over a nice Gilbert and Sullivan. Hopefully, composers (and students) will come to their senses, and my little list will begin to grow. Until then, great article!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
